So, Sunday night AJ and I got dealthy ill (or so I felt). For 2 nights straight I was up with him as he cried and wriggled in sickly uncomfortableness. But I didn't have anyone to take care of me!! James tried, but he had (has) an extremely important work week this week so I made him go to bed. Anyway, in addition to me being sick, I got bad news on Monday that, in addition to other things, ripped my relaxing vacation out from under me. Doh!
I tell you that, to tell you this: all of this sickness and bad newsness has effected my eating as well. For some reason, whenever I get sick, I crave high fat meals, as well as carbs. Dangerous. In fact, what I always want is a huge thing of Chicken McNuggets and an extra, extra large french fry. High fat-high carb. Anyway, although I did not do that (mostly for fear of my stomach getting angry and making me feel more sick) I did over do the fats yesterday (for example, breakfast: 3 scrambled eggs in bacon grease with cheese melted on top, 4 peices of bacon, 3 mini potatoes with cheese on top, and homemade hollendaise on...all of it. HA!) Yes, fat does not make you fat, but too much of anything (even vegetables) is just plain not good for you. Anyway, the rest of the day I didn't eat much...probably because my breakfast had enough fat to fill me up for a week. Needless to say, I have not work out yet this week.
Yesterday Rachel Parker came over and took Alayna for a few hours so that I could sleep when AJ took his nap. So what I needed! In addition, last night AJ only woke up 2 times so I was able to sleep. I still don't feel 100%, but I think I am on the mend. Plus, the bad news isn't seeming so bad because James and I instantly brought the situation to God and have praying friends praying for us. That is another update for another time...
Anyway, yes, today.....
Breakfast-3 eggs with a little cheese on top. less than 1/4 cup hollendaise sauce on top. Coffee with a wee bit-o-cream.
Snack-leftover steamed broccoli....I don't know why....
Lunch-Skip lunch
Dinner-Good lord, I don't know yet.
Workout-Nothing exciting. Maybe just some squats and pushups....I don't want to over do it to the point that I become sicker.
Goal--Quit getting sick so that I can keep up my eating and workout momentum, for crying out loud!!!!

Amber--Day 1 (Again)
So I have done some evaluating and this is what I have learned about myself:
1. I need to be on here daily. I need the accountability.
2. I am weak and once I give in to temptation, it gets easier and easier to cheat.
3. I still have more will power than in the past. I have not pigged out, eaten loads of things I shouldn't and my portions have been reasonable.
4. I do better when doing this with friends!
So last yesterday, all in all, I did well. Dinner was almost all paleo, although I did cook with wine, and I don't know if that is allowed. Also the sauce was thickened with cornstarch--is there a good paleo sauce thickener out there?????
Today I have an eating plan!
Breakfast--two egss hard boiled, a mango and some coffee
Lunch--left over chicken and asparagus without the sauce
Dinner--pot roast, with 1/4 a sweet potato and some spinich.
Snack will be plain greek yogurt with almonds and maybe an apple chopped up in it for sweetness.
NO MORE SUGAR! NO MORE "BITES" OF ALL THINGS GLUTEN/GRAIN.
Today I am dealing with headaches and restless sleep and I know it is because my body is once again having to detox off of the crud that I have let it nibble on the past three days.
Here I go, off to start Day 1. NO cheats for 30 days!

P.S.
So excited for the delightful delectables that I will be bringing to girl's night tonight. Muwaha...
Lindsey again
Hey, can we invite Brynn? No one seems to be hip on the blog anymore, and I think Brynn, who is going full steam on her "diet", would really benefit from this....just sayin.
Did extremely well yesterday as far as eating and workout goes....except I ate a little too much bacon. Yes...too much bacon. Still not getting enough sleep....I don't know what to do about AJ.
My workout yesterday was 21, 15, 9 sets of 125lb dead lifts and 35lbs overhead squats. Yay! I met my workout goal for this week.
The real challenge will be, starting on Sunday, enduring the entire vacation without going food crazy. We are going to California. A lot of that time will be spent living with people who are gluten fiends so it will be an eating and social nightmare. I need to prioritize getting some sort of workout in and not going crazy on all the food that will be around. I can do it!
My breakfast this morning was delightful--3 scrambled eggs with 2 oz corned beef with 1/2oz of cheese and some hollendaise sauce on top. So...so yummy.

Amber--Day 18--I haven't abandoned you!
Ok so I just got so swamped the past three days that I didn't poste---but I have still stayed paleo.....until today. I started off my cheat by eating 1/4 of Ollie's sausage biscuit, not a horrible amount of gluten, but still. I am sad I can't say I have never cheated :(
Then I was teaching a class. I was starving. I didn't take snacks for myself. I ate two small bags of chips--one of cheetos and one of fritos. Neither had gluten but both were crap!
For my late lunch/dinner I had a lettuce wrapped Double-Double no sauce at In&Out and then an apple with almond butter for a snack when I got home. I had a few pinches of my trail mix I made too (dark chocolate-73% cacao, unsalted cashew pieces and unsweetened coconut flakes).
So I am never cheating again! 2.5 weeks with no gluten, eat 1/4 a buscuit and some crappy chips and my gut couldn't empty itself fast enough. Sorry if that was TMI, but it was not good. I feel all squirrelly in my tummy. Ugh. Jon says that is exactly what happens when he has gluten, only x10. I am sold on you Paleo and I promise I wont cheat every again!

Had Panda Express yesterday. I always feel salt overloaded the next day...ugh. But we had a double serving of veggies, mandarin chicken and mushroom chicken. Not horrible, but I am pretty sure that there are hidden things (like soy sauce) that I should not be eating.
Yesterday I did 100 burpees. My back, shoulders and chest are punishing me a little today.
Today I will be doing this for a workout: http://www.crossfit.com/ 21, 15, 9 deadlifts and overhead squats. No, I can not do the weights they have posted...I will do a wimpier version.
As I was re-reading the Mark's Daily Apple post about "Why You Aren't Losing Weight"....I was reminded that I am not getting enough sleep. On a good night I get 6 or 7 hours, but that is pushing it. AJ is a terror. He wakes up several, several times a night to eat and I just don't know what to do anymore. I am trying the water thing, but he wont sleep until his belly is full. What do I do?
Bacon!

Lindsey
Doing pretty good! I have lost a pound since I have made sure to limit my portions (yay Zone!), not eat after 7pm, and make working out a priority.
On Tuesday I used the double stroller to take the kids and we walked to this nasty hill near out house, about a 1/2 mile away. I ran up it (with the stroller---hard!) as fast as I could, then walked down. Then I ran up it again....then, I walked and ran up it 2 more times. I also did 50 walking lunges on the way there. I am on a search for intense workouts I can do with the kids because, poo on them, I cannot do my regular workouts with them there. They get in the way.
Excited that a Crossfit style workout class is coming to Desert Sports and Fitness. They have childcare and I fully intend on signing up when get get back from vacation.
I went to the Tea and Treasures yesterday which was, lets not sugar coat it, a gluten fest. That's okay. I ate vegetables and dip. I was pretty nervous, so I didn't eat much of that anyway.
On the way home I went to Carl's Jr and got a lettuce burger. I love them.
Goals for today:
Work it out baby, short and intense. (That's what she said...)
Continue eating within the Zone parameters

Annette's going to come back...
Sorry for the little vacation. We have had a lot of company over the last several days. I haven't been all that great but I certainly didn't return to my really horrible eating habits. Today I wasn't great either. I was super tired and very hungry all day. I had a medifast bar with coffee. Then for dinner I had spaghetti. For a snack I had a bowl of cereal and for dinner I've had 10 chicken nuggets I baked in the oven. I made broccoli but haven't eaten it yet. I know we have the little tea tomorrow so I may have some of the snacks but I will be good about my subsequent meals.
Amber--Day 15
So I did take my measurements, but since I am getting ready to start my period, I am going to take them again when I am done. I feel incredibly bloated today :(
Breakfast--two cups of coffee, scrambled eggs with a little cheese, mushrooms tomatoes and three slices of Pastrami diced up and mixed in. I may have eaten a kiwi, but that may have been yesterday and I didn't report it--I can't remember!
No morning snack
Lunch--4 rolled up pieces of lunch meat with a thin spread of cream cheese, a slice of avocado and the littlest bit of honey mustard and 5 baby bell peppers.
Afternoon snack-- 2.4 ounces of 73% dark chocolate with almonds, a small apple with almond butter
Dinner-- 4oz of white fish fillet cooked with butter and some seasonings , a large portion of steamed broccoli and a large salad topped with slivered almonds, some goat cheese, sliced peppers and mushrooms with balsamic vinegar.
Jon sat and ate a large bowl of ice cream in front of me tonight--it was well past my 7 o'clock time limit--watching him eat it made me hungry, so I had a small bowl of 2% plain greek yogurt (I like this one rather than full Greek yogurt because it is 22gms of protein a serving compared with 9 grams of protein for the full fat version) with 4 mini dried plums (no sugar added). Hope this late night eating doesn't set me back too much!
Thanks for coming back and your encouragement Lindsey! I am going to try to add some high intensity exercising into my day. I think it would help to get together for a few work outs so I can get a better idea of what I should be doing.

Amber is Still My Hero
Yay! Amber is doing so good! I am glad she is taking it all so seriously. Go girl, go! Go! Can't wait to see the changes!
Lets see. I am pretty much the same. Just hanging out at a size 8, 153lbs. Quite frustrating actually. I, most likely, need to create a calorie deficit somewhere and start working out more faithfully. Unfortunately my body has lost all of the "no effort" body fat and now I actually have to TRY different things to lose weight. Imagine that.
I have exactly 14 days before we leave on vacation, and I am not so sure that I am going to be 145, unfortunately. My body is desperately clinging to 153lbs....let go! My ultimate goal is to be a size 6 and lose most of this post baby pooch. Anyway, so today I have started cutting back on the amount I eat. Honestly, I don't need as much food as I did pre-paleo. I am satisfied with much less these days so it shouldn't be hard.
So far today:
Breakfast-leftover porkchop (cooked in EV Olive Oil), coffee, cream and a little splenda. Yeah, weird.
Lunch-A few bites of roast chicken, maybe 2 oz? 1 orange, a bite of corn on the cobb...(shh!)
Dinner-Will be..Corned Beef and Cabbage w/ carrots
And this is it!
Workout--30 kettle bell swings, 100 jump ropes, 40 baby b goo weighted squats. Man, it is hard to have a solid workout with kids. Just sayin.

Amber--Day 14 (I feel lonely on here)
So two full weeks of paleo and not one cheat. Amazing. And I feel great!
Today I had a latte with whole milk, two fried eggs and 1.5 pieces of bacon.
Lunch--4 meat and cheese rolls with a small chunk of creamcheese rolled up with lunch meat (Pastromi) an avocado slice and a little bit of spicy honey mustard (maybe a spot about the size of the end of a pencil eraser on each one). It was so tasty! I also had about 4 baby sweet peppers and 5 strawberries.
Snack--about 1/8 cup of cashews, a small apple diced up and two 1 inch squares of 60% cacao dark chocolate diced up and mixed together. Totally satisfied my chocolate craving.
Dinner--In&Out burger--cheese burger, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and no sauce (wasn't sure if there was sugar in the sauce or not) and large bowl of steamed broccoli with some seasoning salt on it. I love steamed broccoli. Ollie told me it is funny that it tastes so good when it smells like toot when it is cooking :)
So on a non-food note--I miss you guys. I miss reading about what you are doing. It is encouraging to me. Please come back........

Amber--Day 13
I did it! I resisted the donuts (although the smelled so good), the breakfast burrito and the buns on my hotdog and hamburger. The biggest temptation was to have a soda--It was hot and the thought of a cold soda was really tempting, but I didn't do it!
Today I ran my but off--literally! I definitely got some exercise in today! I took photos for each flight going out and we would have 4-5 planes on the runway at a time. I ran back an forth from plane to plane for 3 hours without a break. Then again for another 3 hours after about an hour break. I am sooooore tonight!
Breakfast was an apple with almond butter and an americano with whole milk.
I had a snack of cashews (two handfuls) and 5 prunes.
Lunch I had about 6 strawberries, 2-3 small sweet peppers, a cheese burger(No bun) and a hot dog(no bun). Neither tasted very good. One thing about paleo, I have really come to appreciate how food tastes. When you are eating for noureshment and not boredom, you appreciate what you put in your mouth. Life is too short to eat bad hamburgers! I am not sure what I would have done instead, but I would have rather had something thtat was enjoyable.
Dinner was taco salad. I skipped the chips, fished out the beans, and ate the meat with lettuce, tomato, bell peppers, about two table spoons of cheese and some sour cream. Super tasty and filling.
When I got home from the event, I had one square of dark chocolate as a reward for a job well done. Jon is currently sitting next to me eating ice cream and rather than wanting to cut him for tempting me, I am happy that my will power is continuing and this isn't a temptation to me. He must be psychic--he just asked me if I write about him on the blog :)
I am so thankful for this blog--it helps me to have a place to put my thoughts out, and reflect on what I am eating. It has helped to evaluate what I am eating and see my day to day food choices laid out. I am seeing a correlation between the days that I want snack at night and the days that I feel fine after eating my final meal. The days that I don't have a lot of fat I feel more snacky than those days that I include some fats to each meal that I eat. Interesting stuff.
Tomorrow I will be on two weeks of no cheats--this is amazing to me! I have never had this kind of will power. Praise God! I know it is HIM helping me make these healthy choices! It feels so much better to in control of my eating :)

Amber--Day 12
Today was a weird day--a everything that can go wrong will go wrong kind of day--for example, I locked my keys in the car, with it running and had to wait for an hour for AAA to arrive and unlock the door. Yeah...that kind of day. And STILL!!! I didn't cheat!
Ok, unless you count that I ALMOST caved and ate a chocolate covered strawberry at Megan's shower--less than one bite and I threw the rest out.
Today's menu:
Breakfast: Americano and an apple with almond butter
Snack: 1 inch square of 60% cacoa dark chocolate--Lindsey told me today that it was paleo. This news has changed my life. Delicious. I have craving chocolate. It tasted so sweet--I am sure because I haven't been eating any sugar in the past 12 days!
Lunch: I didn't eat until the shower--two scoops of diced mango with strawberries, probably one cup total. Three slices of lunch meat with three cheese slices. About a cup or more of raw broccoli, a couple small sweet bell peppers, a few cherry tomatoes, and about 9 shrimp, 3 of them with a tiny bit of cocktail sauce.
I didn't really eat dinner. I wasn't hungry and I had too many errands to run. I munched on some broccoli and just ate another square of chocolate. Tomorrow is going to be rough. I am working the UIM Missions Aviation Day tomorrow--they will have some breakfast burritos, and hot dogs for lunch. I am taking snacks and eating breakfast before I leave. Wish me luck!

Being an 8 is Great!
I am just so excited because when James and I went out shopping for our anniversary, I fit into an 8! I am not trying to gloat, it is just such an accomplishment from where I started at a 14. I haven't been a solid 8 for quite some time.
Yesterday was a great day. Me and James went to the mall and got some new clothes. We also got massages at that little, goofy place in the mall. It was an amazing massage...I'm not gonna lie. Those little Asian fingers were magical.
As far as food goes, I did...not so great. I can't believe how well everyone is doing, and I am sliding a bit. Shame! We went to the frozen yogurt place in the mall (which I love!). I didn't have any toppings and only had a little bit--but it is still more sugary carbs than I needed. Could have been worse...
Then we went to Chilie's with a gift card. I had the Monterey Chicken, but did not deny the mashed potatoes....we also had bottomless chips. Ugh!! Corn up the wahzoo. No gluten, but still...The only redeeming thing about eating a lot of corn and sugar today was this: I got bloated and sick feeling. It was a great reminder in regards to why I DON'T eat like that. Plus, my 8 has re-motivated me!
I ate a freaking tamale for dinner last night---then I threw the rest out.
Today is going to be a good, but busy day. Have Layna's gymnastic's class and a shower later. Like...a baby shower, not a shower, shower. You know what types of food are at baby showers...Even though most foods don't tempt me (especially the gluten ones) it is hard to resist the potato and corn goodies when you haven't eaten.
Had 3 eggs with onions, a little cheese, and mushrooms scrambled. 3 pieces of bacon. Coffee with Splenda (shhh!) and cream.
Making corned beef and cabbage right now for lunch and James' dinner. Potato not included.
Goals for today:
-Small workout (squats?)
-Don't eat anything unpaleo at the shower--eat a little before I go

You know what types of food are at baby showers...Even though most foods don't tempt me (especially the gluten ones) it is hard to resist the potato and corn goodies when you haven't eaten.
Had 3 eggs with onions, a little cheese, and mushrooms scrambled. 3 pieces of bacon. Coffee with Splenda (shhh!) and cream.
Making corned beef and cabbage right now for lunch and James' dinner. Potato not included.
Goals for today:
-Small workout (squats?)
-Don't eat anything unpaleo at the shower--eat a little before I go

Staci
Well, I did have a peanut butter and banana sandwich for dinner. After reading up on paleo and breastfeeding, it's not best for me to start it yet. I'm still watching what I'm eating and not eating many carbs, but still keeping them in for 1 meal a day. Also, I'm proud of myself that I did Lindsey's challenge last night and did 100 squats, crunches, and push ups! Tonight I did a mile on the treadmill too! My thighs hurt!
Amber--Day 11
So surprise, surprise.....I didn't work out today. I did run myself ragged, does that count?
Breakfast--scrambled eggs with sauteed mushrooms and onions and a little cheese mixed in. 2 pieces of bacon and a coffee.
lunch--another coffee and a salad with sliced pear, Gorgonzola cheese, roasted pecans and chicken with a Gorgonzola vinaigrette. Very yummy. I had a cup of mixed fresh fruit as a side that I ate later as a snack along with about a 1/4 cup of shredded coconut. Two glasses of water--probably not enough to counter act the caffeine though!
By dinner I was quite hungry...so when I was making bacon for the dinner I ended up eating about 2/5 pieces and a small handful of cashews. I was pretty full by the time I finished dinner. I wont do that again.....
Dinner--Chicken sauteed in a little bit of the left over bacon grease, then I tossed in Brussels spouts and seasonings. When it simmered down and the chicken was done I added a little whole milk and some Parmesan cheese and topped it with the bacon. Not to bad--pretty tasty! Ollie even ate the sprouts this time around!
Must exercise....must exercise....must exercise.....why is it so hard?

Annette's Wednesday
I didn't exercise today but I worked my butt off in the house today. About three hours after waking, I started and did not stop until now...11:30pm. I did 3 loads of dishes, cleaned the kitchen, tended to kids, did 3 loads of laundry, went to the store, made treats for Hannah's school....I'm pooped. And boy did it keep my mind off snacking or getting hungry.
1 Medifast Bar and Coffee with Coffee Mate
1 Medifast Pretzels and Diet Pepsi Max
Bowl of homemade pinto beans and brussell sprouts
Bowl of beans w/ 3 corn tortillas
I add no lard to my beans, just a little olive oil. They turned out so well. Yum! That's why I decided to have them for lunch and dinner today.

Amber--Day 10
....and still not one cheat. I can' believe that I have been doing this for 10 days and not given into temptation. This week has been much harder than the last for sticking to my commitment of 30 days of Paleo, still I am going to push through. I still didn't exercise today :( Ahh, maybe tomorrow.....
Breakfast--Grapefruit, small handful of cashews, smoked sausage with scrambled egg and cheese, a breve latte (Starbucks was out of whole milk and only had cream)
No snacks today!
Lunch--Large salad with about 12 medium boiled shrimp, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers with a home made dressing of mayo, lemon juice and curry--sort of a curried Caesar dressing. Very yummy with the shrimp--wish I would have had avocado, then it would have been perfect. Drank two glasses of water.
Dinner-- My sis and I went to Monkey Burger. I had a blue cheese with caramelized onions, and roasted tomatoes with romain lettuce. My sis and I shared some sweet potato fries (I ate about 6 or 7). Can I tell you how happy I am that I can eat a couple of those fries every now and then??? Who needs potato when you the sweet potato.
All in all I am pleased with my day. I hope this irritable, snarky mood passes soon. I don't want to be a grump, but everything is annoying the snot out of me today! Poor Jon.....he came home to a crazy lady tonight!

Annette's Tuesday
Today I was off the program again. If I deviate from my Medifast structure, I try really hard to keep my calories in check. I figure following medifast will help me lose weight much faster but when it boils down to it, the simple science of calories consumed being less than calories burned will keep me losing even if it's at a slower rate. So, yes, I want to continue following the program but when the situation doesn't permit because of being tired or not having gone to the store to have the supplies I need, I will restrict calories to stay losing.
1 Coffee and Medifast Bar
Handful of pistachios in the shell and one baby bell cheese
Footlong (yeah, portion control out the window) Steak Subway Sandwich-I was feeling really tired and weak today so Steve got us dinner
Largish bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats cereal
My guess is that this was all about 1850 calories. Not very good for losing but not going to gain. For a person of my weight, even being at a sedentary lifestyle, burns 1950-2000 calories per day. Any activity added that is not sitting on my butt is more than that. I'm going to do better today. Tomorrow I'm making a St. Patty's day meal so it won't exactly be diety but I don't think it will be horrible. The corned beef and cabbage is good but I'm going to make shepherd's pie which has mashed potatoes and cheese. I will eat responsible portions of that and focus on meat and veg.

Staci-
Well the last 2 days I've done really well! I've had an apple and almond butter for breakfast almost everyday. Banana as a snack, some almonds with raisins, dried cherries, and a few bittersweet chocolate chips mixed in. Salads for lunch, and that same chicken and mushroom thing I made the other night with sauteed spinach. I'm really trying.
On another note, I really would like you all to be there to support me with my Stella and Dot Launch. It's Thursday, March 31 at 6pm. You don't have to stay for a long time, but I'd really like you to come by! It'd mean a lot to me to have your support!

Lindsey-Sick! Nooo!
Monday was a good day. Met all my goals. Ate well and didn't eat after 3pm as per IF. I also worked out. I ran 1 mile (I actually was able to keep a running pace the entire time!!!) and then did 25 burpees in the garage. It felt good and crappy all at once.
Tuesday-I got sick! I finally caught AJ's cold, but I am trying to power through it. I drank about a gallon of green tea and raw honey. I took tons of vitamin D3. I ate well, except for dinner when I had part of a gluten free cupcake that we had for AJ's birthday. It was kinda yucky. I think I will be making our gluten free treats from now on, rather than the store bought mixes. Bluck!
No workout today as I was feeling like a snot factory.
Wednesday-Feeling better, just a bit congested. Goals-Eat proportionately. Light workout-100 squats, 100 sit ups, 100 push ups. Fight this cold off!! Tomorrow is James and Lindsey's Day of Fun where the kids go to sitters and we are going to spend all day together to celebrate our anniversary! I don't want to be sick!

Amber--Day 9
Day 9 still no cheating :) Still no exercise, but I did do some good walking today when I was doing a photo shoot.....
Breakfast--medium apple with almond butter, two americanos
Snack--handful of cashews, handful of fruit twists (no added sugar, just fruit)--They didn't taste too healthy, so that will not be a repeat snack. I was at Target and didn't think I would have time to grab a bite to eat before meeting a client.
Lunch--one chicken breast from Wendy's, a glass of tea and a string cheese from my mom's house.
Dinner--two small tilapia fillets (10 oz total) cooked in lemon juice and seasoned with salt, pepper and parsley, one mango and a handful of raw carrots.
Feeling very irritable the past two days. I don't think it has to do with diet, but maybe? Could I not be eating enough? Maybe it is just stress. The boys are always a little more rowdy when Jon is on travel--tonight they locked the door of their bedroom, and I can't get it open. They are camped out sleeping in the living room tonight.
I haven't lost any more weight. I am a little disappointed. I do feel like clothes are feeling better though and I know that is important as well.

Annette's Monday
Well I eagerly got on the scale this morning. Our scale is really crappy. You can stand on it three times in a row and get a slightly different reading everytime. I'm going to go get a new one soon. From what I can tell, I look to have lost 1-2 lbs last week. Yesterday I gave into the pasta for my dad's birthday dinner. I don't regret it one bit. It was fabulous! I was good leading up to it and skipped on the birthday cake and ice cream. I do regret having 3 rolls. They were pretty small but I can tell that hasn't been a part of my diet because I was miserably full for hours. They were incredible. Michaelangelos is wonderful.
Coffee w/ CoffeeMate and a medifast bar
1 medifast chocolate shake
Venti Ice water
3 rolls some of bites dipped in olive oil and balsamic, Rigatoni w/ chicken and pancetta in a gorganzola cream sauce. Snagged 2 bites of my dad's tiramisu. 2 glasses of water.
Dinner was pretty early so later I had a snack of 1 baby bell cheese and a handful of pistachios in the shell.

Amber--Day 8
So, good thing I am doing this paleo thing this week. Today started week two in a row of Jon being gone. If I wasn't following paleo, I would be sipping my second glass of wine right now. The boys were driving me nuts....all day.....
Breakfast--Americano (no cream this time! I think I have moved passed my obsession with whole milk in my coffee), a medium apple with 2 tbs of almond butter.
Snack--small handful of cashews
Lunch--6 oz of steak and a large bowl of steamed broccoli, small kiwi and a 1 liter of carbonated water.
Snack--1/3 cup of cashews and 1/2 cup of blueberries
Dinner--egg casserole with spinach, garlic, onions, one brat out of its casing and pan friend with the onions. It was filling--I had too much garlic and I didn't precook and drain the spinach so it was a little watery on the bottom. Oh well. Next time I know.
No exercise today :( I stink at exercise. Must try it tomorrow.

Staci-Day 1 of restart
Breakfast- medium apple and tbsp almond butter
Lunch- salad with mixed greens, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, black olives, chicken, bacon, and honey mustard
Snack-2 strawberries, 4 celery stalks with tbsp almond butter
Dinner-chicken with mushrooms over sauteed spinach

I'm not lost... just restarting.
You haven't lost me, but I am restarting my endeavor today. This is really hard for me. I'm not a big meat eater, so I have a hard time finding stuff that I want to eat. Also, nursing full time has me worried that I'm not eating enough to keep up my supply. It's also extremely hard when Will isn't on board with me, and doesn't think I need to do it. Plus everyone around me doesn't think I'll be able to do it. After seeing the horribleness in the pictures that Amber took of me yesterday at Ella's dedication... I have to do something. (P.S. Amber- you are not allowed to EVER take upward angle pictures of me! :o)
Lindsey-3/14/11
I fear we have lost Staci....:(
*As a side note, it took me at least 2 years of James nicely hinting at Paleo for me, as well as a few attempts, to fully get on the Paleo wagon. It takes different people different amounts of time to really get on board. For me, I tried every "diet" under the sun and none of them worked. It wasn't until I gave Paleo 30 days that, wallah!...it worked!*
Casa Molina last night was a success! I had a half of a corn chip and a salad. Going out to eat is not a big deal to me anymore...I just don't care about all that stuff that used to tempt me. My only small inkling of temptation was to order a tamale, but, meh, whatever. I still really like food, but we aren't obsessive lovers anymore. A much more healthy relationship!
Anyway, doing my IF today. Can eat Paleo from 9-3. Looks like a late breakfast and an early dinner!
Tomorrow is AJ's birthday! Already sent James a text to pick up Gluten Free cake mix and frosting. Yes, the cake will be a cheat, but not the ultimate, gluten filled cheat. My boy deserves to eat some GF cake for his big day!
Will workout when James gets home--something with dead lifts...I am feeling like dead lifts today.
I leave you with this inspiring image: So that I can say I moved on from this. :)

Annette's Sunday
Weird day:
1 medifast bar and a giant iced coffee w/ coffeemate and a little extra milk
1 medifast honey mustard pretzels
Lunch at the in-laws:
Tons of broccoli(probably 1 1/2 cups) with a little dip and a few baby carrots
Probably about a cup of pulled pork(Jon's and I skipped the bun) and a handful of fritos
Something killed my stomach and I was in major pain. Probably the fritos. I don't even like those chips. Don't know why I allowed myself some. I had to lay down a while because of the pain. I've had a dull headache too.
Once we got home after AWANA I had a handful of pistachios
Later I had 2 baby bell cheeses and about 3 mouthfuls of sunflower seeds.
I need to get some water in me. Only had about a glass today, some soda and my giant coffee. That's probably why I have a headache.
Tomorrow we are going to Michaelangelos for my dad's birthday dinner. I've never eaten there before. I will see if I can convince myself to not order pasta. So hard. This week I'm hoping to add some exercise. Particularly I want to start doing some exercises with the dumb bells on my arms.

Amber--Day 7
One full week of no cheating--this is 100% unprecedented in the previous diets, life-style changes, healthy habits, whatever you want to call it, that I have tried in the past.
Today was a good eating day--I didn't over do it at any meal, but I do need more veggies, I think.
Breakfast--eggs, small amount of cheese, broccoli, mushrooms and onions all scrambled together. Tasty. I am liking the broccoli and eggs combo. I also had 1/4 mango and one 1/2 of a piece of bacon. Also had a small coffee with whole milk.
Lunch was 5 guys. I had a bacon cheeseburger with onions, mushrooms, lettuce and tomato. It was a mess without the bun. I think I am over 5 guys now. I wasn't even tempted to eat one fry so I consider it a success. I drank two large glasses of water.
Had a long photo shoot today and didn't get home until after 6. Dinner still wasn't started and I as starving. I had a small apple sliced with almond butter (I found some without sugar at Trader Joe's!). Delicious.
Dinner was one left over pork rib (weighed the meat when I got it off the bone, 4oz), and a large scoop of baby Brussels Sprouts. They were wonderful! I braised them in lemon juice and water and then drained them then I put them back in the pan and drizzled whole milk over them and sauteed them with a little butter. They had a creamy lemon flavor. Ollie asked me to never make them again. Guess who is eating them for breakfast in the morning? Yep. Ollie. My mom made me do it and now I eat my Brussels Sprouts!
Dinner was late so it was the first time in a week that I ate after 7. I made sure I didn't keep eating even though I really wanted a piece of fruit. I can wait until morning!
My goals for this week:
Add exercise in 3 days a week. I plan to use the elliptical three times this week and do something with the boys like go for a walk at least two days. When Jon gets back from his trip, I am going to try to start taking a morning bike ride before he leaves for work each day. It will mean that I have to get up early. Wish me luck!

Nikki is weak.
So, I have been awful and not REALLY started. I have had ok moments, not even days. I am currently cooking a pan full of bacon and boiling a
dozen eggs. I am so bad at diets. The only way I made it in the past was the fear that if I didnt, that I'd miscarry Emmy or Olivia. That's motivation. Getting thin and healthy, now that is way easier to talk myself out of.

I did really well yesterday and am doing well today.
Yesterday:
Breakfast-3oz of chicken, 2 pieces of bacon, and some coffee with cream. Cream is considered a carb, so I didn't eat any fruit of veggies with breakfast.
Lunch- 4oz grilled ribeye with olive oil, 1 cup veggies with full cream butter, 1/4 baked sweet potato with olive oil
Dinner-4.5oz Paleo Meatloaf w/ 2 bacon strips, 1 cup veggies, 1/4 baked sweet potato (left over from lunch)
Later snack-attempted paleo coconut ice cream---fail
2 mile walk with the kids in the double stroller. 50 lunges during walk.
Today-
Breakfast-3oz paleo meatloaf and less than 1/4 cup mashed potato (my bad!), coffee w/ sugar free choc milk mix and cream.
Lunch-4oz grilled rib eye (leeefftt overrrss!) w/1/2 cup veggies, 1/2 cup paleo Coconut ice cream--win!!
Dinner at Casa Molina tonight---wish me luck!
No workout tonight.

I keep seeing pictures posted from the wedding and I am so much fatter than I imagined. Here's one where I look like a blob. I figured I'd post this one for shame and motivation. I'm not about to post before pics of me in my bra because I am too disgusting and cellulite-y to do it. So the date of this pic is 3/1/11

Annette's Saturday
Had a pretty good day to make up for yesterday's sushifest.
short americano with some coffeemate and a medifast brownie
1 medifast bar
I only ended up having 2 snacks before dinner because I worked at Starbucks today. We were extremely shorthanded so I didn't get my break until my shift was almost over. I was proud though because this week tons of new yummy sounding mini pastries came out and I didn't sample even 1! All I had was a tall iced coffee w/ some whole milk
Dinner was broccoli, stir fry vegetables and 2 veggie patties with sauteed onions and a little cheese.
Then I had a handful of pistachios as an evening snack and plan to have some sunflower seeds now.
I've had 3 venti ice waters today and will try and get a little more down before I hit the hay.

Amber--Day 6
Survived another day at Casa De Carbs AKA the Russell's compound.
Breakfast --scrambled eggs with cheese, a medium apple and 4 pieces of bacon. --Good golly! They had fresh baked biscuits and hash-browns on the table-I had to text Lindsey and get a pep talk! ;) I talked myself out of drinking some juice--empty calories. No need for those!
No morning snack, one americano with a little half&half. 3 glasses of carbonated, non-flavored water.
Lunch was sandwiches--so I had three thin slices of salami and one slice of ham, and I rolled them with some provolone cheese (only two slices), and a quarter of small tomato each, with a slice of onion. Pretty tasty. Had about 2 apricots and I was fairly full.
Snack-- 1 cup 2% plain Greek yogurt, 1/4 cup of blue berries, 1/2 an small apple, and some slivered almonds. very filling.
Got a little snacky feeling so I had a few cashews, maybe 5? 6? Not many.
Dinner--dinner was Nico's. Didn't see anything there that I thought would work, so I went over to Sonic and got a cheeseburger, no bun. I was still hungry. I had another slice of salami with cheese and decided to call it quits. Drank a couple glasses of water and the urge to eat subsided.
Today was bad in the fact that I didn't eat any veggies. Evidently I married the only Russell that eats them. I plan on making up for it tomorrow :)

Paleo Meatloaf
Just wanted to pass on a Forbes Family Favorite:
1 diced red onion
2 lbs of grass fed ground beef
1 cup almond meal
2 eggs
1 can tomato paste
1 tbsp crushed garlic
1/2 tbsp sea salt
2 tbsp dried basil
1 tsp marjoram
cracked black pepper to taste
Mix all ingredients by hand in a large mixing bowl. Place meat mixture into a large glass baking pan and form into a loaf. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until meat is no longer pink in the middle.
We wrap it in bacon...of course.

Annette's not awesome day
Ok, I said I was going to be a little cheater today.
1 medifast bar and coffee w/ coffee mate
1 medifast choco shake
3 sushi roll and 2 very tiny lobster spring rolls and iced tea
This was an amazing meal and I was absolutely stuffed. 3 full rolls is a lot of sushi. But really, how bad is sushi? I know white rice isn't great but it's not like it was loads of it. Talk about low fat and the calories couldn't have been that bad! I definitely feel better with that being my splurge rather than 5 Guys which the cheese burger alone is like 950 cals.
Then this evening I was surprised with myself because I was eating quite a bit. Not bad stuff, just felt like I needed it. I had 1 baby bell cheese, a handful of pistachios and 2 large bowls of my vegetable lentil soup. I drank a couple glasses of water but not enough. Going to grab some again now.
When I look at my whole day I'm sure I'm still at a calorie deficit for the day but even now at midnight I'm stuffed from my soup! I over did it. I think what happened was Steve had the house really cold and I was freezing so I just kept eating and eating that soup.
Back to the grind tomorrow.

Amber--Day 5
Today was a little bit harder to keep from cheating, but I made it!
Breakfast--Same eggs combo as the last three days (I think I am over it now--need something new!), 2 slices of bacon and a small whole milk latte.
No morning snack. (Go me!)
lunch--I needed a break from meat so I had about 1 cup of 2% plain greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of blueberries, 1/4 cup of slivered almonds and a small apple diced and tossed together. Very tasty and fairly filling. I was pretty hungry by dinner though!
Met a friend for a pedicure and she brought me a plain coffee and a starbucks treat (temptation #1)--It was just a mini dessert, but I passed. Yay me! That one wasn't the worst one though!
When I got to my in-laws for dinner--they had a virtual feast of all my favorite snack foods--big fat yummy rolls, chips of every kind, two open boxes of girl scout cookies, crackers, tortillas, soda....you name it! (Stinking Russells and their skinny genetics!)
Mom had a 6 oz chuck steak in the fridge, so I seasoned it and pan fried it with onions. Not super great, but it got the job done. Had about 5 raw carrots (is that a paleo no-no?) 6 dried apricots, and some asparagus. And two large glasses of water.
We go back tomorrow too and I am going to make sure I take snacks. I don't think I am strong enough to do to days in a row of open snacking on chips and dip!

Staci-Sorry!
I know I haven't kept up blogging but I've been doing pretty well! I'm trying! Yesterday wasn't a perfect paleo day for sure, but I wouldn't say it was a "bad" eating day. Also, yesterday I walked around the zoo with a friend from work who had the day off and I just got back from walking a mile to and from the park. So, I'm getting a little exercise in too. It's no crossfit, but it's exercise! This morning I made 2 scrambled eggs mixed with mushrooms and broccoli and a few bacon strips. I'm drinking all water too, unless I go out to eat. I make it a treat to have a Diet Coke!
Burpee Workout Demo
Okay, one more post.
I just wanted to show you guys an AWESOME at home, body weight workout. It is called a burpee. Demonstration here--http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/CrossFit_Burpees.wmv Note that it combines a push up, squat, and vertical leap. Ugh, it is exhausting. I do between 50 and 75 and consider it my workout for the day. It is high intensity and serves well for a workout. I started out only doing 25 there for a while, and increased it.
Another note, I still do a "Girl Push Up" with my knees on the ground, do a little hop to get my feet from the push up to the ground and then I jump straight up, as I as I can. Serves the same idea.
So, if you want to incorporate a little bit of quick, intense workoutness into your day---this is a FABULOUS one.

Lindsey...Feeling Better, Feeling Motivated
So, yesterday's goals were a bust. A complete bust. I was exhausted, unmotivated, and had a headache. I did not eat anything bad but was constantly nibbling throughout the day. I felt extra hungry. Not sure what the deal was. Needless to say, I did not do any Intermittent Fasting. My workout was bunk. Just went outside and did a few sprints, some shoulder presses, and some squats. At least it is something.
Today I am feeling much, much better. I got okay sleep and it is the first day I haven't had a headache. I think Annette is right, coming off caffeine. I love me some coffee, but it is nice to not be addicted to it. I think I will make coffee a "couple times a week" thing, instead of an "every day without fail" thing.
So we have about 20 days before we go on our extravagant California vacation. Okay, not so extravagant, but my ultimate goal for the vacation was 140lbs and I don't think I am going to make it. I would have to lose about 12lbs by April 3rd. Pretty sure that aint gonna happen...but I don't think another 5lbs is unreasonable. As of today, I am going to extra try. Like, be an Amber. I am going to start paying more attention to my portion sizes, working out 4 times a week, and IF once or twice a week. No more playing around....my vacation is right around the corner!
My Defined Goals: (For Realz)
1. Be 145lbs by April 3rd
2. Workout 4 times a week
3. IF 2x a Week
4. No more lax portion sizes. Eat the right amount.
5. Absolutely no cheating. None.

Annette 3/10
Had a pretty good day with a tiny cheat. Tomorrow I'm going to have sushi with my dad so I'll be having another little cheat but cheating with Sushi really doesn't seem all that bad but it's definitely not in the program.
1 Medifast bar and coffee w/ Coffee Mate
1 medifast honey mustard pretzel sticks and diet soda
1 handful of pistachios and sunflower seeds and diet soda
1 Medifast bar and diet soda
A good amount of chicken tenderloins cooked in just a little olive oil, broccoli and brussel sprouts, small cup of my vegetable/lentil soup
Took kids to the movies had about 10 skittles and about 6 handfuls of popcorn.
Water you ask? Horrible! Why did I drink 3 diet sodas?! I'm going to drink a huge glass right now!

Amber--Day 4
I feel silly coming on here each day and saying, "I had another great day!"......but I really did! I think the thing that makes the most impact on me is that for the first time in my life I am not tempted to cheat. When I tried Paleo about a year ago, I lost ten pounds on it the first month--but I never did it the way you are supposed to. I heard James say something about occasionally having gluten and hung to that for dear life--sure I cut it out for the first week, but then I added some back in, and a little sugar along with it. One month later I was totally done with staying on it. I am not sure what is different this time, other than I am more determined--Honestly, I think it is God. I believe that this is a discipline and I seriously lack discipline in any form, so I prayed that God would help me to develop disciple in this area. I know I have an issue with overeating--and I also believe that it is wrong to over indulge--in anything. I don't have an issue with drugs or alcohol or sex....I have an issue with food...but I hope that I am on my way to ending this obsessive relationship with food.
Today's menu :) (I made a point of drinking two 32oz cups of water today)
Breakfast--Made the same scrambled eggs with mushrooms and onions as yesterday. So yummy! I also had one medium latte with whole milk.
Lunch--two medium pork ribs and a whole apple.
Snack--about 3 tbs of chopped pecans and cashews
Dinner--sirloin steak (about 8oz), cauliflower "mashed potatoes", and asparagus. I was especially proud of myself at dinner tonight--My mom-in-law brought apple pie, and my kids and niece and nephew all wanted ice cream (my personal fav)--but I wasn't even slightly tempted! I want this girls!
My goals--I would like to loose 50 lbs to start. I would like to start exercising regularly. I would like to do something physically active with my boys everyday--chase, bike ride, wrestle, whatever--I just want them to be active and healthy/

Lindsey Stuff
First off-The paleo coconut shrimp recipe from last night was a great success.
Second-Can I say how stinkin proud I am of Amber? She is motivated and asking questions. Keep it up girl! You are going to succeed!!!
Yesterday I cheated, I must say. Alayna's babysitter had bought her a Happy Meal that she ended up not finishing. Don't worry--I finished it for her. I had 2 chicken nuggests and some fries. Consequently, my tummy was a little churney. Oh well, because I am established in the diet, this will not ruin me. Today is a new day.
The last few days (maybe 5?) I have had headaches. Mild, compared to what I used to have, but headaches nonetheless. I have also been unusually tired. I have been eating clean and not getting more or less sleep than usual (for a year now, waking up every 3 to 4 hours with Fart Knocker AJ). I have two theories:
James thinks it is stress. Kids, house, volunteering, school, social engagements, appointments, budget, and less than ideal sleep. I am busier now than I was teaching.
I recently gave up having coffee every single day due to the coffee stains on my teeth that the dentist had to scrap off...so I switched to tea. I have only had 2 coffees in the past week. So, maybe my body is coming off the caffeine?
So those are my health concerns. Since going Paleo I have had lots of energy and no headaches. All of the sudden I am tired and having little headaches. Wondering also if it is something in my diet I am not recognizing? Hmmmm
GOAL FOR TODAY:
1. Work out-5 Deadlifts, 15 push ups, 100x sprints (5 rounds)
2. Intermittent Fast-Lunch
3. Portions, keep an eye on the amount being eaten.
4. Post fat pictures

3/9/11
1 Medifast Bar and Coffee w/ CoffeeMate
1 Medifast Honey Mustard Pretzel Sticks
2 Baby Bell Cheeses
LARGE bowl of vegetable and lentil soup
1 Small side salad w/ bleu cheese dressing
Another Large bowl of my soup
I did well for the diet today. I felt like I cheated a little with the salad but only because today was a fast day so I really wanted to stick to just my soup for dinner since I'm doing my medifast snacks during the day. I ended up having it twice because I missed 2 of my protein snacks because I forgot them when we left for church this afternoon/evening. So, I was a little hungry. I sucked bad about water again today! Grrrr! I've only had about 1 large glass and one large soda. I'm going to try and get some down before bed. That ought to be pleasant.

Amber--Day 3
Today was a good day! I have had headaches and neck tightness the past two days, and today no headache! I am hoping this means that I am past the detox phase?
Day 3-- No cheating!
Breakfast this morning: two eggs scrambled with sauteed onions and mushrooms topped with 1tbs of shredded cheese. Yum! A latte with 1 cup whole milk.
Snack: another latte--it tasted so good with the whole milk!
Lunch: Bowl of steamed broccoli topped with some diced up bacon wrapped chicken that I had in the freezer. It was pretty tasty together! Normally I eat it with rice or potatoes but I didn't miss them today!
Snack: 1/4 cup of chopped pecans.
Dinner: 1 picnic style pork rib (sort of like a pork chop), cauliflower "mashed potatoes" (pureed steamed cauliflower, with whole milk and little butter), cup+ of steamed broccoli.
Dessert: 1/4 mango, 1/4 apple and a couple of slices of kiwi.
I weighed myself this morning and weighed in at 227. I know that it is probably water weight, and it will fluctuate through out the week and yada, yada, yada, but I am happy all the same!
I tried to drink more water today, I drank about 3 liters.

My story
While I only have about 15lbs I'd like to lose, my reasons for doing this are more for health. Through miscarriages and pregnancies I was diagnosed with possible insulin resistance and then Hashimotos thyroiditis. Because of this, I did a lot of research and went on a similar diet years ago. While on it, I felt amazing and saw great results. I wish I had stuck with it. I went off of my thyroid medication a couple months ago in hopes of figuring out if some other health issues I was having were related. I was having heart palpitations, lightheadedness, anxiety like no other, tingling, etc. I had a chest X-ray, lots of blood work, and an ultrasound on my legs for evidence of a blood clot in the lungs. All came back fine, but it took a while for my issues to lessen..I still have some trouble. It really scared me. I realized that while I was putting healthy vegetables, fruit, meat on the table for my kids, I wasn't eating much of it myself. So, doing this with you all is yes, to lose weight, but more importantly to me, it is to get healthy for my family.
Starting weight 133.
I havent done my measurements.

Amber--Day 2
Today went well! I didn't cheat, and I was only mildly tempted throughout the day :)
Spent the morning at Starbucks while my mom had the boys. Is "me-time" part of a healthy lifestyle? I loved having some time to work without the stress of my mess in the background of what I am doing!
Breakfast-- was the fuit, nut and cheese dish at Starbucks--1/4 apple, 1/4 cup of almonds with a few cranberries (all of this fit into a 1/4 cup serving dish), about 3 oz of different cheeses, a grande americano and a 20oz water.
lunch--chopped salad at Sauce, with chicken, pine nuts and gorgonzola cheese. I had them out balsamic vinegar on the side because they said they had sugar in all their dressings. I think I liked it better than with the dressing it usually comes with. I skipped the roll that came with it and drank two glasses of water. I was full until about 3:30 until I had my snack
Snack--handful of chopped pecans and an medium apple, and a small kiwi
Dinner--small piece of grilled chicken and some baked pumpkin with cinnamon, nutmeg and some butter. At first it tasted like pie that was missing something, but after a few bites, it grew on me and I found it very enjoyable.
I need to go grocery shopping tomorrow. All we have that is paleo friendly in the fridge are some eggs and some salad.
I fought the urge to make a latte with 1% milk today and had some tea instead. Hope I can keep this up!
No food after 7 tonight again as well. This is hard for me--I am a nighttime snacker.
I want to better understand this lifestyle. I read a blog tonight after I did a search for pumpkin to make sure it was ok, that talked about how much fat was in some paleo pumpkin pancakes--I didn't think that fat was something to be worried about? He said something like "take a long ride or run and you'll be fine". When should I start worrying about how much fat is in something?
I think I want a set menu to eat for the next few weeks to help me get an idea of what this looks like other than just not eating grains and sugar.

Staci-Look what I made!
I made this yumminess for breakfast today and thought I'd share!
It's just eggs, mushrooms, broccoli, sundried tomatoes, and of course bacon. Yep, it was good.
P.S. I did well today with my eating. Now to find time to actually get some workouts in.

Annette - Day 1
Don’t be a hater because I’m sticking with my medifast stuff for now. I think Paleo sounds great but I’ve already invested in my food for Medifast. It has a similar approach in that you don’t eat bread, sugar, etc. After gleaning all that from your system your body switches to burning fat reserves instead of sugar stored up in your liver.(kitosis) The reason I’m a fan of this medifast for the time being is because of the stage I’m at in my life. I’m a short order cook all day long for 4 kids. I spend so much time caring for them and cooking for them that I don’t have time to cook much at all for myself. I make time at dinner to cook for Steve and myself. With Medifast you eat 5 of their high protein snacks and then for dinner you have a lean protein and green vegetables. Same idea as with Paleo that if you cheat, it only sets you back. After about 3 days of the plan, you body enters that kitosis stage and then you are money. Steve lost about 30-35 lbs doing the program with me. I’m still excited to hear and learn about Paleo and strive to eat that way at restaurants. I’m going to resume diet tomorrow. I was doing the plan before but with the wedding and all our out of town family for dinners I took a little break.
After David I got all the way up to 210lbs. My highest ever. I’m currently at 195. I’m anticipating even better success now because I’ve been done nursing for a while now so my body should be back to normal. I was at quite a stand still at one point and I think my body was in starvation mode because of nursing. Here are the stats:
Weight: 195
R Arm: 14
L Arm: 13
R Thigh: 28 1/4
L Thigh: 27 1/4
R Knee: 18 1/2
L Knee: 18 1/4
R Calf: 15
L Calf: 14 1/4
Waist: 38 1/4
Bust: 39 3/8
Rib cage:36
Largest part of butt: 50! Can you say pair shaped?
I know that seems like a lot of measurements but some of those areas are places where you see success before you see the waist and butt go down. I usually lose lots in the arms and the area of the leg right above the knee. I know how I work and I like to see progress or I get very discouraged. It’s also weird how much smaller my left side is from my right. I guess I’m REALLY right handed.
Today I was fighting the stomach flu so my eating was like a sick person. Bowl of ramen, a few saltines. Tonight after feeling a little better I had Andrew’s 4 chicken nuggets he didn’t eat and a few pistachios.

Lindsey's Starting Measurements
Just so you all don't feel bad--here is my ORIGINAL stats as of September 15, 2010:
Weight-187lbs
Bust-40in
Waist- 38in
Hips-48in
I didn't do my arms or thigh. Should have. Anyway....here is where it stands as of Today:
Weight-153lbs
Bust-36in
Waist-31in
Hips-38in
Still not where I want to be, but much better than I was. Hit a plateau in January and sat around for a while at 160lb until I tried Intermittent Fasting which rocked by body back into gear. Anyway...there you have it.
P.S. I so did not work out today. Tomorrow!

Amber-Day 1
Ok, so I think today went fairly well!
Here was my food for the day--Glad I read this at 7:00. I was seriously thinking about getting another snack. Geesh! I am going to have to go to bed early every day to get used to not eating at night!
Breakfast--2 eggs overhard, and two pieces of bacon, an medium apple and a cup of coffee.
Snack--a 1/4 cup of chopped pecans
Lunch-- two grilled chicken thighs and a bowl of spring mix, topped with 1/4 cup of goat's cheese and balsamic vinegar.
Dinner--Apple with Almond butter (which after eating I discovered had organic cane sugar). I was going to do something different for dinner but after I ate it I wasn't hungry any more and now it late and the kids ate mac-n-cheese so I wont be eating with them....
My measurements: These are rough--I think I need some to help me make sure I do it right.
Chest--43"
Hips--46''
Waist--36"
Arms--15''
Weight is 231lbs
Here are some horrifying pictures to testify to the accuracy of the above measurements....

Staci- I'll fess up
Uggh... This is embarrassing, I can't believe that I let myself get this far. Yes, I know I'm 6 weeks post partum, but still. When Will was deployed I joined Weight Watchers and my weight was 150. In 2 years I've "blossomed?" Yes, 2 kids have helped with that. BUT STILL. Ick.
Here's the starting stats:
Weight: 181
Bust: 40 in- hello breastfeeding boobs
Waist: 36 in
Hips: 48 in - Can we say "childbearing hips?"
Arms: 13 in
Thighs: 24 in
Yuck. Embarrassed.
BUT... I have NOT cheated on Day 1! Go me! :o)

Modified Zone or "I have a distored view of portion size!"
I just wanted to share a little blip that my husband wrote up for Staci. It would be valid for you guys if you want to use it. Just follow exactly what it says.
If you are like me, I had to know exactly how much I had to eat and when. For a while I tried not putting a cap on my eating and I wouldn't lose weight-even though I was eating Paleo! It was because I was eating and eating and eating. You can still become fat, even if you eat too many nuts or meat. So, this was the way that I ate Paleo and got my portion size and my infatuation with food under control.
Check out this link: "http://library.crossfit.com/free/pdf/cfjissue21_May04.pdf" http://library.crossfit.com/free/pdf/cfjissue21_May04.pdf . Read the link, then read the rest of this, as it will make more sense after reading the PDF file. Print it. We have the food lists in our kitchen.
This deals with the Zone Diet. The zone diet is concerned more with quantity rather than quality, but it should help you learn a little about portion size. I am going to deviate the diet a wee bit, to get you kick started quicker.
You will be on 11 blocks
Typically this means 11 block of protein, 11 of carbs, 11 of fat.
But for you this is going to be: 11 blocks of protein
6 blocks of carbs
26 blocks of fat
You will eat four meals a day: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack. Snack can be a mid-morning snack or afternoon snack. No eating after 7pm.
Here are three options for you: Pick one
Bigger Breakfast: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Snack
4 Blocks protein 3 protein 3 protein 1 protein
2 blocks carbs 2 carb 2 carb 0 carb
8 blocks Fats 6 fat 6 fats 6 fat
Bigger Dinner: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Snack
3 protein 3 protein 4 protein 1 protein
2 carb 2 carb 2 carbs 0 carb
6 fat 6 fats 8 fats 6 fat
Regular/normal: Breakfast Lunch Dinner Snack
3 protein 3 protein 3 protein 2 protein
2 carb 2 carb 2 carbs 0 carb
7 fat 7 fats 7 fats 5 fat
Check the food list on page 3 and 4 for what constitutes a block: For instance 1 ounce of chicken = 1 block, so if you need 4 blocks of protein for a meal you will eat 4 ounces. Weigh your food after you cook it. Don’t worry, the weighing and measuring gets easy. Pretty soon you will be able to eyeball it with great accuracy. The food list includes foods that are not paleo. DO NOT PICK THE NON-PALEO FOODS! Just don’t pick any carbs that are breads, cereals, grains, beans, corns, rice.
Don’t freak out about the fact that you have 26 fat blocks. FAT DOES NOT MAKE YOU FAT! In fact, eating the high fat--lower carb ratio will make your body fat loss amazingly fast. Ask Lindsey.
***The first week will probably suck. You will most likely feel hungry, have headaches and feel tired. This is because you are coming off the drugs of grains and gluten. After about a week, you will actually have more energy than you did before.
Stick with it, it get easier, even enjoyable. It took awhile but now I have lots of great recipes and fun foods.

Lindsey is Excited!
Hey, I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. First off---so excited that you guys are going paleo! I know it is about weight-loss (like it was for me at the beginning) but now it is because I FEEL so much better and, truly, I never fart anymore. :) yay for healthy guts!
Anyway, I was thinking maybe, if everyone can get over their complexes, that we could all take "before" pictures and post our measurements. I think we should throw our scales away and only use these tell tale signs of progress. Then, say, after 15 days, or even a month, we take picture and measurements again. It makes you feel so good to see and experience the changes, ya know? Plus, it would just be us seeing them.
Be strong ladies! No slip ups! For real...the first 30 days are imperative to give it 100%
Lastly, here is my plan for tomorrow:
Eat. 100 burpees.
The end.

Amber--Sunday Night
Ok, so I decided that I had to start tonight and not tomorrow--no more of thinking of this as something I have to start--trying to think of this as something I am going to change :)
I did eat a GF peanut butter cookie tonight before I thought about it, which reminded me how easy it is to eat without thinking. I am glad the blog is back--I was much better about thinking about what I was eating when we were doing this before.
I made a plan for tomorrow, in hopes that I won't mess up--
Breakfast-- two eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, an orange
Lunch-- left over pork roast and roasted veggies, some sort of fruit
Dinner-- hamburger patty with onions, cheese, mushrooms and avocado
Snacks: apple, mango, pecans
I plan on getting some beef jerky and that kind of thing to keep on hand so that I am not tempted to eat the other stuff I usually snack on.
I am excited to be doing this with all of you girls!

The breakdown...
Eat real food – meat, fish, eggs, tons of vegetables, some fruit, and plenty of good fats. Eat foods with very few ingredients, all pronounceable ingredients, or better yet, no ingredients listed at all because they’re natural and unprocessed.
More importantly, here’s what NOT to eat during the duration of your Whole30 program. Omitting all of these foods and beverages will help you regain your healthy metabolism, reduce systemic inflammation, and help you discover how these foods are truly impacting your health, fitness and quality of life.
- Do not consume added sugar of any kind, real or artificial. No maple syrup, honey, agave nectar, Splenda, Equal, Nutrasweet, xylitol, stevia, etc. Read your labels, because companies sneak sugar into products in all kinds of ways.
- Do not eat processed foods. This includes protein shakes, pre-packaged snacks/meals, protein bars, milk substitutes, etc.
- Do not drink alcohol, in any form.
- Do not eat grains. This includes (but is not limited to) wheat, rye, barley, millet, oats, corn, rice, sprouted grains and all of those gluten-free pseudo-grains like quinoa. (Yes, we said corn!) This also includes all the ways we add wheat, corn and rice into our foods in the form of bran, germ, starch and so on. Again, read your labels.
- Do not eat legumes. This includes beans (black, kidney, lima, etc.), peas, lentils, and peanuts or peanut butter. This also includes all forms of soy – soy sauce, miso, tofu, tempeh, edamame, and all the ways we sneak soy into foods (like lecithin).
- Do not eat dairy. This includes all cow, goat or sheep’s milk, cream, butter, cheese, yogurt, whey, ice cream, etc.
- Do not eat white potatoes. It’s arbitrary, but they are carbohydrate-dense and nutrient poor, and also a nightshade.
- Most importantly… do not try to shove your old, unhealthy diet into a shiny new Whole30 mold. This means no “Paleo-fying” less-than-healthy recipes – no “Paleo” pancakes, “Paleo” pizza, “Paleo” fudge or “Paleo” ice cream. Don’t mimic poor food choices during your Whole30 program!
One last and final rule. You are not allowed to step on the scale for the duration of your Whole30 program. This is about so much more than just weight loss, and to focus only on your body composition means you’ll miss out on the most dramatic (and lifelong) benefits this plan has to offer. Give yourself a well-deserved, long overdue break from fixating on that number on the scale! Absolutely NO weighing yourself or taking comparative measurements during your Whole30.
The Fine Print
A few concessions, based on our experience, and those of our clients. These are less than optimal foods that we are okay with you including during your Whole30. Including these foods in moderation should not negatively impact the results of your Whole30 program.
- Fruit juice as a sweetener. Some products will use orange or apple juice as a sweetener. We have to draw the line somewhere, so we’re okay with a small amount of fruit juice as an added ingredient during your Whole30… but this doesn’t mean a cup of fruit juice is okay!
- Processed Meat. On occasion, we are okay with organic chicken sausage (those that are nitrate, dairy, gluten and dairy-free), and high quality deli meat, packaged fish (like tuna or smoked salmon) or jerky. Read your labels carefully, because Whole30-approved processed meats, especially jerky, are hard to find.
- Certain legumes. We’re fine with green beans, sugar snap peas and snow peas. While they’re technically a legume, they’re far more “pod” than “bean”, and we want you to eat your greens.
- Processed goods. We’re okay with cans or jars of olives, coconut milk, sauces and spice mixtures like tomato sauce or curry, or vegetables like sweet potato or butternut squash, but only if the labels prove they’re “clean”.
